Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation
UVBI
Ultraviolet blood irradiation (UVBI) draws a small volume of blood, exposes it to controlled ultraviolet light, and returns it to the body — a technique used clinically since the 1930s to support immune signalling and oxygen utilisation. At SOMA, UVBI is physician-supervised and test-guided, in Mumbai and New Delhi.
What is ultraviolet blood irradiation?
UVBI is one of medicine's older biophysical therapies: a small blood sample passes through a chamber where it is exposed to specific ultraviolet wavelengths, then reinfused. The brief exposure alters cellular signalling in the treated sample, which — returned to circulation — appears to act like a vaccine-adjacent nudge to immune regulation. Modern systems make the process closed, sterile and precisely dosed.
How does SOMA use UVBI?
Within immune-focused protocols — most often where testing shows immune dysregulation, recurrent or stubborn infections, or inflammatory load — and frequently alongside ozone therapy, which shares its delivery route and complements its mechanism. Frequency and course length are physician-set and adjusted by measured response.
Who is UVBI suitable for?
A SOMA physician, after screening. UVBI's gentleness suits clients who need immune support without pharmaceutical intensity, but exclusions exist — photosensitivity disorders, certain blood conditions and some medications among them. As with every SOMA therapy, blood work and history decide.
What happens during a UVBI session?
Before
Vitals and screening confirmation; a single IV line is placed.
During
A small volume of blood passes through the sterile UV chamber and returns through the same line. Sessions typically take 30–45 minutes under clinical supervision.
After
Most clients resume their day immediately. Courses usually run as a series, reviewed against your markers.
Where is UVBI available?
At SOMA in Mumbai — Kohinoor Square, Dadar West — and in New Delhi at Greater Kailash II. UVBI is offered after diagnostic consultation, often as part of a wider immune protocol.
Common questions
UVBI is used to support immune signalling and oxygen utilisation — typically within protocols for immune dysregulation, recurrent infections and inflammatory load. It is supportive care, not a treatment or cure for any disease, and suitability is determined by physician screening.
UVBI has been used clinically for nearly a century; modern closed, sterile, single-use systems and controlled dosing make it a gentle procedure. At SOMA every session is physician-supervised, with screening excluding those for whom it isn't appropriate.
Both treat a drawn blood sample and reinfuse it, but the agent differs: ozone therapy uses medical-grade ozone gas; UVBI uses ultraviolet light. They act through different mechanisms and are often used together in SOMA's immune protocols.
Courses are physician-set — commonly a series of weekly or twice-weekly sessions — and reviewed against your inflammatory and immune markers. SOMA does not sell fixed packages; your response determines the course.

Consultations at our Mumbai (Dadar) and New Delhi (Greater Kailash II) clinics begin with testing, not treatment.
